FOR 2004!
3rd
Annual “Pearl Harbor Day, Train of Remembrance”
Saturday,
December 4th, 2004
The vintage railcar Overland Trail (and her companion
car) will become a commemoration on wheels between Los Angeles and
San Diego on December 6th marking the 62 anniversary of the attack
on Pearl Harbor and the USA’s entry into W.W.II.
In
honor of Pearl Harbor Day (our commemoration is a day early on Saturday),
we'll celebrate America, our flag, and our heroes ... those men
and women who fought defending our freedoms, so many making the
ultimate sacrifice. We have invited Pearl Harbor Survivors who will
share some of their memories from those horrific days.
The
vintage railcars will become our time machine transporting us back
to the time of that "Day of Infamy". Last year's trip
was a moving experience as the invited veterans shared intimate
personal stories from their past. As you can imagine, these men
and women are now in their 80’s, growing more frail by the
day, did you know ... we are losing 1,000 veterans from World War
Two a day. Let's honor these men and women, possibly for the last
time, for the freedoms we enjoy today.
We dedicate
this rail journey as a tribute to the Pearl Harbor Survivors who
will be aboard and through them, to all Pearl Harbor and W.W.II
veterans, who demonstrated their courage, strength of character
and determination serving and sacrificing in our fight to defend
freedom and democracy. These are the true Heroes. And ... does not
that fight continue today? We thank All Mighty God for His grace
and blessing upon our newest veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
We will be privileged to honor some of these soldiers aboard our
upcoming June 12 "Flag Day" run.
Additionally,
adding “color” and authenticity, will be W.W.II re-enactors
who will portray military personal from several branches, not to
mention our regular staff of authentically uniformed Porters/Waiters,
Bartender, Barber, Stewardess and our Conductor.
Please
join us as we enjoy together a transportation experience from yesteryear.
The only thing missing will be orange groves outside our speeding
windows!
Only
$98 / person, round trip. Children 11 & under are half-fare..
